Insect juvenile hormone
Enzoate is a kind of insect juvenile hormone biochemical insecticide developed by Novartis, Switzerland. Insect juvenile hormone can regulate its own growth and development and metamorphosis process. The main function of juvenile hormone is to inhibit the metamorphosis of immature larvae, maintain the characteristics of insect juvenility, and make it still a larva after molting.

As a protective agent for tobacco leaves, enzoate interferes with the peeling process of insects. It can interfere with the growth and development of tobacco beetles and tobacco mealworms, and make the adult insects lose their ability to reproduce, so as to effectively control the population growth of stored tobacco pests.

 

Insect juvenile hormone can not directly kill insects, can only make insects die from the process of metamorphosis, or through infertility or eggs do not hatch to reduce the number of offspring population, so the effect is slow, can not quickly control the harm of fulminant pests, limiting the application in agriculture.

 

Apply
Control of sanitary pests. Enyl has high activity against Blattella germanica and can make both female and male adults sterile. Continuous treatment with this drug, after six months to one year, can make it extinct due to infertility, and it is also effective against large cockroaches. It is also effective in controlling fleas, mosquitoes and flies by making enzoate as a sustained-release agent.
Control hemiptera pests. Enalyne is very effective against greenhouse aphids and whiteflies and has been registered in the United States. But the application stability is not good in Daejeon. Dioxocarb is effective in controlling greenhouse whitefly and scale insect.
Control storage pests. It has high activity against lepidopteran pests during storage, such as grain, flour and tobacco. The United States has tried to use enzoate and dioxycarb to treat many storage pests.
Control ants. Enzoate baits can prevent the normal metamorphosis of larvae, make the king of ants sterile, and effectively control kitchen ants. There is also a report on the treatment of termites with quasi-juvenile hormone.
Increase production of silk. Spraying juvenile hormone or pseudojuvenile hormone such as antijuvenile ene on silkworm holder (2 ~ 4 µg/head) or on 5th instar silkworm body (1 ~ 3 µg/head) can inhibit metamorphosis, prolong the 5th instar larva stage for more than 1 day, increase food intake, increase individual size, and increase silk production. Generally, the amount of silk can be increased by about 15%.
