Afoxolaner For the treatment and control of flea and tick infections in dogs. After being ingested by the dog, avoolene is distributed throughout the dog. When fleas or ticks bite dogs, they are exposed to the drug and are killed while smoking blood. It acts as an antagonist on ligand-gated chloride channels, particularly those gated by the neurotransmitter γ -aminobutyric acid (gaba receptor). Among chloride channel modulators, isoxazolines bind to a unique target within the insect gaba-gated chloride channel, thereby blocking pre-and postsynaptic transfer of chloride across the cell membrane. Excessive excitation caused by prolonged alavozoline leads to uncontrolled CNS activity and insect and mite death.
