Levodropropizine is a chiral antitussive drug first launched by Dompe'Farm in Italy, which inhibits the cough reflex by acting on the C-fibers in the respiratory tract, and is clinically used for the treatment of dry cough without phlegm, compared with other existing antitussive drugs, this product is a peripheral antitussive drug, which has almost no effect on the central system, it has good selectivity, strong antitussive effect, and no drowsiness, respiratory depression, Dependence and other side effects, it has fewer side effects as compared to racemates.
In rats, the central sedative effect of levodropropizine is weaker than that of racemic tartrate, and it does not cause physical dependence. Levodropropizine (15 mg/kg, intravenously) simultaneously reduces the duration of asphyxia and the response of C-fibers to phenyl biguanide. LVDP-induced inhibition of C-fiber response to PBG is averaged 50% in pulmonary fibers and 25% in non-pulmonary fibers.
